Each method, such as keratopigmentation (injecting bio-compatible biological color pigment by opening microscopic channels in the cornea) and wiping melanin pigment with laser, has its own advantages and risks. For example, in keratopigmentation surgery, a tunnel is opened into the cornea with a femtosecond laser, and dye in the selected color is given into this tunnel.
These procedures must absolutely be performed by experienced corneal surgeons, under sterile operating room conditions, and after a highly detailed topography and intraocular pressure examination. Not every patient's eye anatomy may be suitable for aesthetic surgery.
